How We (Accidentally) Found Out

Very shortly before getting pregnant, we got married. January 11, 2014, we said "I do" on the beach and Disney's Polynesian Resort. We honeymooned in Disneyworld and the Bahamas, and came back home on January 19. On February 12, I took a (very random and unwarranted) First Response Pregnancy test.

This is the first test I took. I hardly had any pee to give the thing (again...still wondering WHAT made me want to take this test in the first place), and I could see a faint "half" positive line. So, being 8am after a night shift, I drank some water and went to bed.

So, after sleeping a few hours I woke up and peed on this one. Faint line, right?! I immediately sent it to two of my only close friends who have had kids in the past few years. One responded with "a faint line! A FAINT LINE!!!!" the other said "hmm, might need to take a digital." Well, previously being on Accutane, I had a large stock of pregnancy tests, but no digitals. So, like any other never-been-pregnant young woman, I peed on every stick I had. The next few tests looked like this:

After these two I could totally see the faint positives. However, that little voice in the back of my head kept saying, "You JUST had your period a few weeks ago. These things don't show up positive until AFTER you miss your period..." Because, again, I had absolutely no suspicion the I was pregnant, nor did I have any early symptoms of pregnancy. At all.

So these tests got texted to the peanut gallery, as well. The friend who mentioned the digital test again mentioned the digital test, so when I left for work, I bought the most expensive and ridiculous digital Clear Blue test you can buy...one that tells you not only if you're pregnant, but just how pregnant you are.

I got to work and peed on my space-aged pregnancy test, and here is the result! Pregnant 1-2. In my mind this meant I was one or two weeks pregnant, but after a quick trip to Google, I learned this means three to four weeks pregnant, but one to two weeks since conception.

Amazing! This, of course, has me thinking that I have twins in there or something. Who test positive MORE than two weeks before their period is supposed to come?! So then...I did my math. First day of last period was January 23, which lands my "date of conception" at February 6, and my due date as October 30. So...most likely conceived on or around February 6, tested positive on February 12. Amazing.

One of the most ironic details of this accidental pregnancy was that on February 11, one day before taking our first test, we were planning a 7 Day Caribbean cruise for January of 2015. We had such a great time on our honeymoon we wanted to splurge on an anniversary trip the same week we went on our honeymoon. Also, I had just lost 10lbs and was maintaining a KILLER diet and exercise schedule, which in retrospect, may very well have boosted my fertility.

This is the first time in my life I have ever tested positive for pregnancy, or have had any chance of being pregnant. I've never even had a scare.
